Henry turned three yesterday, and boy did he have a great day! The difference between turning two (which he didn't really show much interest in) and turning three (and really understanding what a birthday is all about!) is quite amazing and just highlights the growth you can see in just one year's time.
We started off the day with some blueberry muffins. We stuck a candle in one and sang Henry "Happy Birthday." He wanted another muffin, so I gave him a second. That wasn't good enough and we had to repeat the candle and the singing. Anything for the birthday boy on his special day!
I went to Henry's school at snack time to celebrate his birthday with his friends. We came home, and Henry's head about exploded when he saw a balloon tied to his dinner chair. I had planned on giving it to him that morning, but Ryan wisely suggested we wait until he got home from school. Henry likes to take a toy or his new favorite object-of-the-day in the car with him on the ride to school. A balloon definitely would have been the object of choice that morning, and we would have had a sad little boy on our hands when the request was denied.
Henry helped me finish decorating his cake, which was a little heavy-handed on the sprinkles, and we played until daddy came home. After dinner we ate some birthday cake (with another round of singing), opened presents and had a visit from Nana and Grandpa. Ryan and I loved hearing the audible gasps every time Henry tore into the wrapping paper and seeing the pure joy on Henry's face when talking about his birthday. We all agreed this was the best birthday yet!
