Happy Birthday Henry!

Henry turned three yesterday, and boy did he have a great day!  The difference between turning two (which he didn't really show much interest in) and turning three (and really understanding what a birthday is all about!) is quite amazing and just highlights the growth you can see in just one year's time.

We started off the day with some blueberry muffins.  We stuck a candle in one and sang Henry "Happy Birthday."  He wanted another muffin, so I gave him a second.  That wasn't good enough and we had to repeat the candle and the singing.  Anything for the birthday boy on his special day!

I went to Henry's school at snack time to celebrate his birthday with his friends.  We came home, and Henry's head about exploded when he saw a balloon tied to his dinner chair.  I had planned on giving it to him that morning, but Ryan wisely suggested we wait until he got home from school.  Henry likes to take a toy or his new favorite object-of-the-day in the car with him on the ride to school.  A balloon definitely would have been the object of choice that morning, and we would have had a sad little boy on our hands when the request was denied.

Henry helped me finish decorating his cake, which was a little heavy-handed on the sprinkles, and we played until daddy came home.  After dinner we ate some birthday cake (with another round of singing), opened presents and had a visit from Nana and Grandpa.  Ryan and I loved hearing the audible gasps every time Henry tore into the wrapping paper and seeing the pure joy on Henry's face when talking about his birthday.  We all agreed this was the best birthday yet!

Three Month Photo Shoot

I have a feeling that the monthly photo shoots will be a bit more challenging and a lot more smiley from hereon out!  I think I managed to get a few good shots despite a too big onesie and Ben's current obsession with his hands.  He also thought it would be fun to either throw himself forward and face-plant into his chair or raise his legs into the air, so there are a lot more shots with baby toes in them!

Ben - Three Months

Sweet Ben turned three months on Saturday!  He and I were in Greenville and had a nice visit with my mom, sisters and a few of his cousins.  I'm glad he finally got to meet Molly, Cooper, Caroline and Graham.  Caroline was so sweet with Ben and was such a great little helper!

Let's see, what have I learned about this little man this month?

  • I'm under house arrest.  Ben hates his carseat.  Like, really hates it.  Lately, I cannot go to Target, the grocery store or anywhere to be honest without Ben telling the whole world how awful it is to be trapped in his seat.  I did put him in his Ergo for one trip out and that seemed to help some.  Also, he is not a fan of the bottle so I feel bad leaving him when I know that feeding time will arrive before I get home.  I hate that someone else is forced to try and feed him when we all know he will just loudly protest.
  • He is camera shy.  I promise that he smiles and has a sweet personality, but he gets so stone-faced every time I try to take a picture (as you'll soon see).  So far I haven't been able to document many smiles, but I can be just as stubborn as Ben.  I will get those smiles!
  • Ben is turning into quite the chatterbox.  This makes Ryan and me worried because we all know how much Henry loves to talk :).  We will never be able to get a word in ourselves!  But I absolutely love the conversations that Ben and I have enjoyed together lately.
  • He is his own man.  I cannot figure out who Ben looks like!  I've heard he looks just like me, just like Ryan, just like Henry or like no one at all.  We say he looks like Ben :)
  • Looking back at the above bullets, I don't want to appear as if I am complaining.  Ben really is a sweet, easy-going baby.  I think it is tough being the second child.  He doesn't get the same amount of attention like Henry did and developing a routine is a bit more of a challenge when you are also dealing with an older brother.  Ben really is such a trooper putting up with us and big brother Henry!

ok, its not so bad!

Mother's Day: Twice as Nice

I had a wonderful Mother's Day yesterday.  I love that we now have Ben to add to the celebration!  It started off with yummy pancakes and flowers.  The boys were on their best behavior and BOTH took 2.5 hour naps AT THE SAME TIME!!  Henry even cleaned a little for me!  We had a nice dinner at Ryan's parents' house and managed to take a few family picture.

ps - it is really hard to take a decent family pictures.  We'll just have to keep trying until we get it right!

Ben doesn't seem to impressed with Mother's Day for some reason

This is the best of the bunch - family photo fail
