One Month Photo Shoot

I always liked those monthly stickers people use to photo and document their child's first 12 months.  I didn't do it for Henry, but figured that doesn't mean I cannot do it for Ben!

ps - taking a picture of a newborn is really hard!  They don't cooperate very well...

Year in Review

Hey there!

Its been a while - almost a year, in fact.  I thought it was about time to recap what we've done this past year.

1) Sold our House!

We put our house on the market in late spring of 2011.  We sold our house about 10 long months later.  As big a pain as it was to have our house on the market, I must say it never looked better (or cleaner).  Of course we had no where to go, so we had to find something fast

2) Apartment Living

We thought it would be best to rent an apartment until we found a house worth buying.  We didn't expect to be in an apartment for too long, maybe a few months max.  Make that six months.  Six very long months.  The apartment was fine in and of itself, but apartment living is not for me, especially with a toddler.  Noisy neighbors, terrible parking, living in Kannapolis -- the whole experience was an ordeal.  But we survived and found a house that we are really happy with!

3) New House!

The housing market is pretty crappy in Concord.  We spent countless hours on real estate websites waiting for something magical to pop up on the market.  We finally found a house we liked and were able to move in Thanksgiving weekend.

4) New Man in My Life!

And then there is this guy:

We welcomed Benjamin Charles Hawkins into our lives on February 18th, 2013.  He weighed in at 8 pounds 3 ounces and was 21 inches long.  We are very much in love with Big Ben, and so far, he is nothing like his older brother.  He looks nothing like Henry, nurses (score one for Mommy!), sleeps well at night, but doesn't sleep well during the day.  I spend a lot of my daytime hours rocking and bouncing Mr. Ben, but we have enjoyed a few seasons of Downton Abbey together.  Henry has adjusted better than I expected to the new addition.  He has his moments (what two-year-old doesn't), but overall its been a smooth transition.  I've been picking up Henry from school these past few days, and it melts my heart to see him running over to Ben and me saying "Its my Ben, its my Ben!".

On our way home from the hospital!

Serious baby

I just read the one month post I wrote about Henry.  I have to say it sucks to be a first-time mom.  I've been able to enjoy this first month so much more now that we've been down this road before.  Yes, there are moments that aren't always enjoyable, but I've been so much more calm and relaxed this time around.  I wish I had been able to let go of some of the initial anxiety I had with Henry in order to soak in that sweet, newborn time that I've been able to enjoy with Ben.
